Insulation Jacketing: Choosing Between Aluminum, Stainless Steel & Galvanized

Insulation Jacketing: Choosing Between Aluminum, Stainless Steel & Galvanized

Jacketing is the first line of defense for insulation systems exposed to harsh environments. In Singapore’s marine and petrochemical zones, choosing the right jacket protects against weather, impact, and corrosion.

1. Aluminum Jacketing

  • Lightweight and cost-effective

  • Available in smooth or corrugated finish

  • Can be coated with moisture barriers (poly-kraft)

  • Best for low-corrosion environments or indoor use

2. Stainless Steel Jacketing

  • Offers maximum corrosion resistance, especially 316L grade

  • Suitable for marine or chemical environments

  • Higher cost but longer lifespan

  • Heavier to install and cut

3. Galvanized Steel Jacketing

  • Economical but prone to rust over time

  • Good for temporary insulation or dry environments

  • Not recommended for offshore or splash zones

4. Loonglobal’s Recommendation

We select jacketing based on:

  • Site exposure (chemical, weather, humidity)

  • Maintenance schedule

  • Risk of mechanical damage
